Report: all four iPhone 16 models to feature thinner bezels

A recent unveiling of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max provided insight into Apple’s plan to increase the screen sizes. The new models are expected to feature larger displays of 6.27” and 6.85”, as opposed to the previous sizes of 6.1” and 6.7”. Despite the size increase, the phones will not be as large as initially anticipated.

According to reports from Korean publication Sisa Journal-E, Apple has developed a “Border Reduction Structure” (BRS) to make the bezels smaller on the new models.

The dimensions of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are expected to be 149.6 x 71.45 x 8.25mm and 163 x 77.58 x 8.25mm, respectively. This represents a slight increase in height and width compared to the previous iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.

All four models in the iPhone 16 lineup are expected to feature displays with BRS. However, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models are likely to have the same screen dimensions as their predecessors, with a 60Hz refresh rate. The upgrade to a 120Hz display is rumored to be reserved for the iPhone 17 generation.

Apple encountered heat dissipation challenges during the bezel reduction process. To address this, the company has introduced a simple solution that will be implemented by its display suppliers: Samsung Display, LG Display, and BOE.

“Companies do not seem to view BRS technology as a very difficult technology,” stated an industry insider. However, as mass production commences, Apple may adjust production volumes allocation among its suppliers if any issues arise.
