Apple reportedly pushes back launch of the foldable iPhone

Apple’s venture into foldable devices is believed to start with a large tablet, potentially a 7-8 inch model in the iPad lineup, followed by an even larger 20.25″ device possibly under the Mac brand. The smaller tablet is anticipated to debut in 2026/2027, while the larger foldable could be aiming for a launch in 2028.

Additionally, there are reports of a foldable iPhone in development. Though there may be a delay in its release, it might still beat the other foldable devices to market.

Initially targeting a late 2026 launch window for the folding iPhone, Apple has now reportedly postponed it to early 2027. This delay is to ensure thorough preparations, including managing the supply and demand of the foldable display.

The timeline for choosing component suppliers, such as Samsung Display and LG Display for prototype displays, remains unchanged.

Apple’s patented solution for a seamless crease on folding displays

Apple’s innovative solution involves etching a groove in the Ultra Thin Glass and covering it with flexible polymers to reduce the crease on the foldable display. This design allows the panel to bend easily and form a less visible crease.

There were plans to release the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 series. With the delay, it remains uncertain if it will have its standalone launch or if it will be introduced alongside the foldable iPad (unless that device also faces its own delay).
