DJI launches a new OSMO Action 5 Pro action camera to take on the Go Pro Hero 13 Black
DJI finally brings a worthy competitor to the Go Pro’s new Hero 13 lineup – the Osmo Action 5 Pro. DJI’s new action camera brings solid upgrades over the last generation camera including an improved image sensor, better stabilization algorithms, improved low-light performance, extended battery life, new recording options, and more.
DJI fitted its next-gen 40MP 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor into the latest OSMO Action 5 Pro with a 155° field of view. The action camera offers a 13.5-stop dynamic range which lets you capture high-dynamic low-light shots and HDR recording at a maximum of 4k/60fps. You can now record 4:3 4k at 120fps with the latest OSMO Action 5 Pro, which you could only achieve at 16:9 in the Action 4. There is also 960fps slow-mo which allows you to capture super slow motion at an unbelievable 1080p/960fps. However, DJI captures the shot at 1080p at 240fps and produces the video equivalent of 960fps in post.
The front and back screens of the OSMO Action 5 Pro are now a little brighter and larger than the last generation and come with OLED displays with 1000 nits peak brightness, producing richer and more vibrant pictures. The front panel measures 1.46 inches up from the 1.4-inch on the Action 4, while the rear screen is 2.5 inches up from the 2.25”.
The battery life is also improved on the Action 5 Pro, thanks to the new efficient 4nm chip. DJI claims the new flagship Action 5 Pro will last up to 4 hours on a single charge. The enhanced 1950mAh high-capacity battery is capable of operating in temperatures as low as -4°F. It also has quick charging support, with the company claiming you should be able to get up to 2 hours of recording time with just 15 minutes of charging.

The OSMO Action 5 Pro ships with a 47GB of fast in-built storage which means you can directly record your footage out of the box. The action camera now comes with the latest WiFi 6 support, allowing you to quickly transfer files wirelessly at up to 80MB/s maximum speed. In addition, there is also a micro-SD slot available which lets you further expand the storage up to 1TB. It also supports a pair of DJI Mic 2 Bluetooth microphones, which can be useful when capturing ASMR unboxing videos.
The other notable improvements include a 4k/120fps recording option in 4:3, an in-camera 360° horizon lock, USB 3.0 connectivity for the fastest data transfer, a new human/ subject tracking feature, and waterproofing down to 66ft.
The DJI OSMO Action 5 Pro standard kit is priced at $349/£349 and is now available via DJI’s official website and other authorized retailers. The Action 5 Pro standard kit includes a USB C cable, a battery, a protective frame, a quick-release adapter mount, a curved adhesive base, a locking screen, a rubber lens protector, a glass lens cover, and an anti-slip pad.
