Lexar Unveils Ultra-Slim MagSafe Portable SSD and Next-Gen AI Storage

Celebrating three decades in memory and storage innovation, Lexar took center stage at IFA 2026 to reveal the Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD. The card-style external drive leads a broader showcase of the company’s next-generation AI storage architectures, commercial client drive portfolios, and specialized automotive storage.

The Muse Ultra-Slim PSSD: Card-Sized Magnetic Storage

Engineered specifically for mobile videographers and creators on the go, the Lexar Muse combines an ultra-slim footprint with magnetic mounting. Built from a precision-machined unibody enclosure, the drive tapers from 3.8 mm down to a paper-thin 1 mm edge.

Instead of traditional bulk, the drive uses an integrated PogoPin interface alongside Lexar’s proprietary SnapLink Magnetic Cable. Paired with a sleeve featuring N52 neodymium magnets, the drive snaps directly onto the back of MagSafe-compatible iPhones, eliminating dangling cables during handheld shoots.

  • Performance: Up to 1,050 MB/s read and 1,000 MB/s write speeds.
  • ProRes Support: Enables direct external recording of 4K Apple ProRes video at 120 fps on supported iPhone models.
  • Compatibility: Native support for USB-C devices, including Mac, iPad, and iPhone.

Next-Gen AI Storage Infrastructure

Lexar also unveiled concept hardware for its growing AI Storage Core architecture, featuring AI-grade Gen5 SSDs and Gen5 Storage Sticks capable of speeds up to 11 GB/s.

Underneath the hardware sits a 5nm DRAM-less SPU (Storage Processing Unit) controller paired with Lexar’s Luma Bridge tech. The system uses predictive caching and intelligent workload scheduling tailored for Large Language Models (LLMs), lowering I/O latency while cutting local DRAM requirements by up to 40 percent.

Commercial PC Expansion and Automotive Storage

Broadening its presence in Europe beyond consumer retail, Lexar highlighted dedicated commercial solutions:

  • EV Dashcam Series: High-endurance, low-profile USB drives designed specifically for electric vehicles requiring continuous multi-channel loop recording, Sentry Mode capture, and extreme temperature tolerance.
  • Enterprise Client SSDs: A refreshed lineup of PCIe Gen3 and Gen4 drives tailored for commercial system builders and corporate PC fleets.

Availability & Price

The Lexar Muse Ultra-Slim Portable SSD will be available globally in 512GB and 1TB capacities starting in Q4 2026. Pricing details will be announced closer to the official retail release date.
